Melomakarona (energy balls version)

This is a recipe inspired by the traditional Greek melonakarona, which are traditional cookies we make during the Christmas period. This version is raw and because all the spices of the melonakarona are used, one can enjoy all the flavor as well as all the healthy nutrients they have!


(Makes about 12 balls)

1,5 cup of walnuts 

1 cup medjool dates

The zest of one orange

Juice from half an orange 

1 teaspoon of cinnamon 

1 teaspoon of cloves 

1 tablespoon of crashed line seeds

1 tablespoon of honey

5 tablespoons of crashed walnuts for coating the energy balls 


Finely chop the walnuts in the food processor. Add the rest of the ingredients and pulse until everything is nicely mixed and you get a dough. If it is too sticky refrigerate for a couple of hours to make it easier to form the energy balls. 

Form little energy balls and coat them in the crashed walnuts. I found it easier to make the balls when wearing plastic kitchen gloves, the dough did not stick on my hands this way and it was easier to shape. Store in the fridge in an airtight container!

  1. Love this! One of my all time favourite biscuits and kinda my weakness so a healthy version is definitely something I want to try. I love making healthier versions of not so healthy foods. Thanks for this!
